The President: We Will Use Nuclear Arms if Attacked by Terrorists. Yes, he said that in a speech yesterday. That is, the French President, Jacques Chirac. Read more here. In my view a democratic country must be allowed to defend itself with every means. That message must be clear to dictatorships and terrorists. But imagine for a moment the magnitude of the outcry in the public debate if this had come from US President George W Bush. Demonstrations, name-calling, conclusions about the wicked nature of his country and other countries? leaders demanding that he change his policies. Etc. And now? Total silence. Thus, it is not the American policies that people criticise - that is just an excuse to criticise the US.
Regarding these issues concerning the relations between the US and Europe, Timbro yesterday released a new Briefing Paper. Ann-Sofie Dahl, Associate Professor, is the author and she has compiled the latest analysis of the relationship and its future. I hosted the event, where Michael Moynihan, Editor of the Stockholm Spectator, and Peter Chase, Director of the EU Division at the US State Department, commented.
