Cameron′s Chance. In the vote concerning a new Party Chairman yesterday among British Conservative MP:s, David Davis ended up first (62 votes), David Cameron second (56 votes), Liam Fox third (42 votes and veteran Ken Clarke last (38 votes). Ken Clarke, thus, is out of the game. Tomorrow the second vote between the first three will take place and another one gets voted out. Then it is up to the party members to choose between the remaining two.
The British Conservatives have more or less been in permanent crisis for ten years. The three last Chairmen have been too extreme, betted on fringe issues and not at all been able to mach Mr Blair′s person or visions for the future. And if the party doesn′t have any good ideas or visions, this is all as it should be. No person could ever create a success for a party without actually wanting to do something.
The Conservative Party has some ideas, but have been far too cautious and tactic. But they have ideas on welfare reform. And their shadow Chancellor has talked about a British flat tax. A person with integrity and principles could carry that much further. He (since there are only male candidates) need also be a nice person. That person, among these, seems to be David Cameron, who has been a very recent success story. And polls show that in a contest between him and Mr Davis, he would win. Thus he will likely be the next leader of the Tories - and the next Prime Minister?
