Wallström and the Holocaust. The British paper Daily Telegraph yesterday wrote that the Swedish EU Commissioner Margot Wallström had accused the Euroscpetics of risking another Holocaust. If true, that would indeed be a great scandal. Furthermore, the article tells that the entire Commission had issued a press release telling the French people to vote yes to the proposed Constitutional Treaty in memory of the victims of World War II. That would be a discrace indeed, if true. But it seems to turn out not to be true, fortunately. The EU leaders sometimes degenerate into quite unpleasant horse-trading and tactics, but not that bad. Margot Wallströms speech merely states the uncontroversial fact that one ambition with the EU and its predecessors was to secure peace in Europe. And such a press release can not be found anywhere to this moment. The British anti-EU press sometimes surpasses itself.
