Another Landslide Coming Up? According to the BBC Poll Tracker, Labour is now leads over the Tories by 10 percentage points; 39 to 29 per cent. In one way, this is unfortunate, since New Labour has promised to raise public spending and increase government size dramatically - with Sweden as the good example. But the Tories haven′t been much better even in that field. Their strategy has been to promise almost the same big government, but also to stir up strong emotions against immigration. (And the only strong force arguing against has been CBI, the British enterprise organisation, which has pointed out how important open borders are to companies and growth.) It is reassuring that the Tory strategy has not delivered success at all. In fact, they have lost much ground during the campaign. The more nationalist they have turned, the less support they have. And that indicates the sound values that are shared by most of the British people.
