The Pope and Feminism. The day after the Pope died, a Feminist Party started in Sweden. The events are without connection whatsoever, but yet it is an interesting coincidence. On moral matters, Sweden is a very non-catholic, modern and tolerant society. Thus, the Pope has mainly been described as a horror from the dark ages in opposition to what most people here believe in. But now that he died, his life and deeds have been described in very positive terms almost everywhere. It is a bit odd. It is more Swedish to have a Feminist Party - heavily leaning towards leftist collectivism in their proposals - than positive texts about the Pope. It has been emphasised in the comments how he chose Christianity as the antithesis to Communism and Nazism. Perhaps the best reason to choose it. But ideologically, liberalism is the antithesis, not any religion. Anyway, the most important issue now is of course the election of a new Pope. Some analysts describe the battle as standing between a radical globalisation critic and a very conservative person. Two bad alternatives. Let?s hope a bright horse in the shape of a tolerant moderniser emerges.
