World War II - 70 Years Ago. In many parts of Europe, this day is highly emotional. Today, 70 years ago, Nazi Germany attacked Poland. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact then divided Europe between the two evil empires Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany. These were indeed Europe′s darkest hours. For some, it may seem far away, but there are still soldiers from that time alive. And the scars still haunt foreign relations, not least in Eastern Europe. Stephan Wagstyl writes wisely in the FT.
