Straight-Talk Express. Today, French President Nicolas Sarkozy cancelled a trip to Sweden scheduled for Tuesday. Rumours have it that he read an interview with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt in today′s Le Figaro. Bildt criticised indirectly several French policies, such as EU and Tureky:
"If we judge Cyprus to be in Europe, although it is as in island along Syria′s shores, it is hard not to consider that Turkey is in Europe. ... My vision of Europe is not as defensive as I observe it with other people."
And further, regarding the car industry:
"Spending taxpayers′ money to subsidise existing structures is a very good way of wasting money."
Straight talk. And true. More of that is needed - especially for the French.
