Sensation in Massachusetts. Thus the Republican Scott Brown becomes the next senator from Massachusetts. The seat had been controlled by the Kennedy family for 56 years, and Brown replaces Ted Kennedy, who passed away. This deprives Democrats of the 60-seat majority to pass their health care reform. Ironically, since Ted Kennedy fought for such a reform for decades. The fact that a Republican won Massachusetts shows the resistance against the reform as well as the very much decreased popularity of President Obama.
