Don′t Demand Too Much. The EU now demands that Turkey opens up for trade with Cyprus - i e the Greek Cypriot country that is an EU member. Otherwise, the process of Turkish EU membership might be in danger, at least in parts. But the EU feels no obligation to allow trade with the Turkish Cypriots - who were the ones, with the support of Turkey, who voted yes to a reunification of Cyprus. Such one-sided demands by the EU makes the situation for the Turkish government very hard. The Turkish EU membership is too important to be played with like this. Read more about my reasons for Turkish EU membership here (Expressen, in Swedish).
