In FT: "Should unions try to stop new jobs?" Today, the European trade unions are demonstrating in Brussels - against the directive that aims at creating a single European market for services. I have a Letter to the Editor in today′s Financial Times concerning this:

"Unemployment in Germany is at its highest level since the second world war. Between 1970 and 2003, employment in the US rose by 75 per cent. In France, Germany and Italy, employment rose by 26 per cent.

Growth in western Europe is low. The average citizen in 38 American states is richer than the average person in any European country except Luxembourg.

Companies and jobs are moving. Every third large Swedish company has outsourced production in recent years. Thus the development goes from bad to critical. Is this a time to resist change? Is this a time to stop new jobs from emerging in the service sector?"
